The Jigawa State Police have apprehended a teenager, Safiyanu Lawan, under suspicion of orchestrating his own abduction in a twisted attempt to extort money from his father.
Confirming the incident, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesperson for the command, informed DAILY POST of the unfolding saga. According to Adam, the incident unfolded on the 19th of April, 2024, around 1430hrs. Alhaji Lawan Dankoli of Kiyawa LGA, distraught, approached the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse, reporting that his son, Safiyanu Lawan, had left for shopping in preparation for school resumption on the 17th of April, 2024, but had not returned.
The plot thickened when, later that same day at approximately 2320hrs, Alhaji Lawan Dankoli received numerous threatening calls from an unidentified number, claiming that his son Safiyanu had been kidnapped.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, a team of diligent Policemen attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse sprung into action, swiftly launching an investigation into the matter. Their efforts led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man identified as Abdulrazak Salisu of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA, who was suspected to be involved in the case.
Upon interrogation, Abdulrazak Salisu allegedly confessed to being aware of Safiyanu Lawan’s whereabouts and admitted to colluding with him in a scheme to extort money from his father.
In a surprising twist, the acclaimed victim, Safiyanu Lawan, was apprehended by the police at the location where he was allegedly hiding.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities assure that diligent efforts are being made to uncover the full extent of the deception. Both the teenager and Abdulrazak Salisu are set to face prosecution as the legal proceedings progress.
