Controversial Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, a Nigerian singer, has claimed that his colleague, Seyi Vibez, imitates Asake’s musical style.
The ‘Zazu‘ singer made the claim on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, which is co-hosted by actor Nedu.
He also revealed the source of his feud with Seyi Vibez.
“Seyi [Vibez] copies Asake; Mr Money,” according to Portable.
“After I went viral, Seyi [Vibes] begged me to perform at his show. I didn’t get anything. I even distributed N500,000. Hoodlums assaulted and robbed me at his concert. They stole all of my jewelry. I did not request compensation from Seyi. My manager was to blame for bringing me to the show.
“However, when I was about to headline my own show at Fela [African] Shrine, I invited Seyi Vibez [who had just risen to fame at the time], and he turned me down. That is where the feud between me and Seyi Vibez began.”
He stated that he will continue to “fight” Seyi Vibez with his “talent” as long as the award organizers continue to nominate Seyi as “Best Street Artist” ahead of him.
Portable also slammed artists who use streaming farms to manipulate their songs’ positions on digital streaming platforms.
“I’m a fisherman, not a farmer.” There are both farmer musicians and fisherman musicians. Farmer musicians use streaming farms to boost their chart positions. An artist who is number one today would be number 174 in one week. That demonstrates that the streaming farm exists in our industry.”
