The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a significant achievement in revenue collection, with Acting Comptroller General Bashir Adeniyi sharing the impressive results during a recent interaction with journalists, marking his first 100 days in office.

Adeniyi revealed that in the first half of 2023, the agency generated an average monthly revenue of N202 billion.

Notably, this performance exceeded expectations, as the service consistently surpassed its monthly target collection of N307 billion during this period.

For the months of July and August 2023, the Nigeria Customs Service remitted a total of N343 billion in revenue to the federation account. This represents a remarkable 70.13 percent increase in revenue collection compared to previous months.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Adeniyi as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs in June, and since then, the agency has witnessed substantial growth in its revenue collection efforts.

Adeniyi also highlighted ongoing Revenue Recovery review activities, which contributed an additional N8 billion during the mentioned period, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to revenue generation.

He expressed the agency’s determination to sustain and further expand this positive momentum throughout the year, with the goal of minimizing deviations from the revenue target, particularly considering the significant shortfalls recorded in the first half of the year.
