In a significant breakthrough, the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cracked down on internet fraud in Asaba, Delta State, apprehending 48 individuals involved in suspected cybercrime activities. This operation, carried out based on actionable intelligence, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The suspects were taken into custody at various locations in Asaba, following extensive investigations into their suspicious activities.
Among those arrested are Benjamin Kennedy, Abariowei Preye, Odinakachukwu Favour, Ofere Oghale, Micheal Okonkwo, Ezeali Stanley Chinedu, Akaluai Tega, Chibueze Obiozie, Chukwuma Chidimma, Sambo Daibra, Sunday Victor, Favour Ogaga-Oghene, Albert Oluwaleke, Agholor Omobude Simeon, Okeke Chibike, and many more.
The EFCC operation not only led to the apprehension of these individuals but also resulted in the confiscation of valuable assets. Nine luxury cars, including three Mercedes Benz GLK 350s, a Toyota Camry SE, two Lexus RX 350s, two Toyota Camry LEs, and a Mercedes Benz GLA 250 4Matic, were seized. Additionally, a cache of mobile phones and laptops, suspected to be tools of the trade for cybercriminals, were recovered from the suspects.
The EFCC has indicated that the apprehended individuals have cooperated and provided significant information during the investigation. They are now set to face legal proceedings, with charges expected to be filed as soon as the investigation is concluded.
