In a remarkable achievement, Edo-based Baptist Mission School (BMS), formerly known as Baptist High School (BHS) in Benin City, has clinched the second position in the prestigious 2024 World Mathematics Tournament (WMT).
The virtual event, organized by the Mathematics for Life Foundation, witnessed participation from 33 countries, with 590 secondary schools competing globally.
The top honors went to Welkin International Schools, Atan-Ota, an Ogun State-based missionary school, marking their excellence in mathematical prowess.
BMS proudly stood as the second-best secondary school in the competition, a testament to the exceptional skills demonstrated by their students.
The victorious SS3 students, Victor Obaseki Christian and Daniel Noel Isuekevbo, received accolades from Mr. Kevin Okunzuwa, the Vice Chairman of BMS Parents Teachers Association.
Okunzuwa commended the outstanding achievement of Daniel and Christian, emphasizing the pride they have brought not only to their parents but also to the school.
He urged the government and stakeholders to bolster investments in the education sector, specifically emphasizing the need for capacity enhancement of teachers and the creation of a conducive learning environment to foster academic excellence.
In his call to action, Okunzuwa encouraged the BMS students to draw inspiration from the remarkable feat achieved by Daniel and Christian, highlighting their role in elevating the school’s reputation on a global stage.
