In a display of disagreement and resolve, Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, made a noticeable exit from a government function on Monday.
The situation unfolded when a number of his aides encountered difficulty entering the venue, which cast a shadow over the event’s purpose.
Governor Godwin Obaseki hosted the event, a colloquium held at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Airport Road in Benin City. This gathering aimed to honour the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum, an occasion of historical significance.
As the governor began his opening remarks, Deputy Governor Shaibu and his team arrived at the event. However, security personnel stationed at the hall’s entrance prevented some of Shaibu’s aides from entering.This unexpected hurdle led to a tense moment.
Amid the unfolding drama, security officials attempted to explain the situation to the deputy governor. Yet, Shaibu remained firm in his stance that his aides should accompany him.
Ultimately, after several minutes of unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue with security officers, Shaibu issued a decisive directive: “Let’s go,” he instructed his aides.
This incident shines a spotlight on the intricacies of official functions and the dynamics that can emerge even in such settings of significance.
